Mayor Judy Sheets Announces Campaign for Re-Election, Running on Raising the Bar for Frankfort’s Future
FRANKFORT, IND. — Mayor Judy Sheets announced today that she will seek re-election as Mayor of Frankfort, asking residents to continue the work of building a stronger future for the Gem City. Sheets will run in the Republican primary on May 4, 2027.
A lifelong resident of Frankfort, Mayor Sheets has spent more than four decades in service to the community, including nearly thirty years with the Frankfort Police Department and twelve years as the city's elected Clerk-Treasurer, before taking office as Mayor in 2020. That experience, she said, is the foundation for how she governs: carefully, honestly, and with the whole city in mind.
Sheets is framing her campaign around what she calls the Sheets Standard, a governing ethic rather than a slogan. Its promise is simple: to raise the bar for Frankfort's future while protecting the downtown, parks, and small-town character that make the community worth calling home.
“I love this town, and I am not done working for it,” said Sheets. “Frankfort does not have to choose between growing and staying the place we love, and I intend to prove we can do both. That is the standard I hold myself to, and it is the one Frankfort deserves.”
The Sheets Standard rests on four commitments the campaign will carry throughout the race: growing Frankfort without losing what makes it special, being careful with taxpayers' money, listening to residents first and then leading, and being honest about what is real.
Sheets pointed to the steady, deliberate work of recent years as the groundwork for responsible growth, from improved streets and parks to competitive state and federal grants brought home for the city. Rather than chasing headlines and working to build our community like those around us, she said, her focus has been on setting Frankfort up to grow on its own terms, working proactively to welcome new jobs and investment while protecting the land and character residents told the city they value most.
Under the leadership of Mayor Sheets, city departments have made significant strides, highlighted by the establishment of Fire Station 4—the city’s first new fire station in 57 years—and a new police station, both marking momentum toward westward growth. Additionally, the police department earned ILEAC accreditation, a prestigious distinction shared by only a select few departments across the state. Increased paving through Community Crossings Matching Grant funds from the state, attention to sidewalks and alleys, as well as investment in improving main thoroughfares like Maish Road have all been integral to setting the City up for growth.
That direction, Sheets noted, comes directly from residents. Under her leadership, the city has launched a Comprehensive Plan process, funded by a grant from the Office of Community & Rural Affairs, that has already drawn responses from more than five hundred community members about their priorities for the next ten and twenty years. This process signals to developers that Frankfort has a plan, and it intends to attract the right growth to preserve the Gem City legacy.
“I have spent my life in service to Frankfort, and I have always tried to lead the same way: careful with your money, honest about what is real, and listening before I decide,” Sheets said. “The plan I am running on is not mine alone. It has been inspired by our residents who are telling us what they want the next twenty years to look like, and I intend to deliver it.”
